August Alsina New Orleans R&B: NEW MUSIC

August Alsina

Move over Trey Songz and Chris Brown this New Orleans native – August Alsina – is ready to take your spot on the R&B dais.

August Alsina is a hot R&B rookie to watch out for this year with the highly anticipated release of his debut mixtape “The Product.”

My recent trip down South through Texas allowed me to discover the talent of Kirko Bangz a dude I surely wouldn’t have heard  of here in Australia.

I travelled through Atlanta and Memphis then finally to New Orleans for Mardi Gras – where the subject of this post, August Alsina is from. The trend I noticed very quickly while in the US (and had seen this with my former flame who hailed from Florida) is that the locals are very supportive of their native state and city artists. Almost to the point where you don’t hear anything on the radio airwaves other than artists from that region.

Australia is so large and the states are vast – yet there doesn’t seem to be a regional difference in urban music. The number of R&B, rap and hip hop artists is so small here compared to the USA – hence artists like our Iggy Azalea found that she had to leave home to gain a career in the industry.

Who is August Alsina?

I actually recall hearing about August Alsina while in the NOLA earlier this year.

He is young  at 19 years old and has been singing since 14, he tragically lost his brother in 2010 to murder. In 2011 he relocated to Atlanta and partnered with management company, Noontime Unlimited.

 “The Product”

I really like him I think he sounds a lot like a hybrid of Chris Brown and Trey Songz and it’s hard to believe he’s only a teenager! He hits those high notes and trills like Trigga.

I see a promising future for him, dude is very talented – now like all artists who start out on the mixtape circuit he needs to establish his own sound, tracks and style that doesn’t seem like a carbon copy of Trey Songz.

August Alsina – remember where you heard about him first, just saying…
