Climax – Usher: MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW

Usher has finally gone back to his roots and recorded a purely R&B song reminiscent of his Confessions era titled “Climax.” HALLELUJAH!

I am elated that Usher has finally gone back to singing R&B with the release of “Climax” – I have been so frustrated with Usher over the last few years releasing these dance/R&B/pop hybrid tracks just to cash in on the latest chart fad. Usher’s a veteran of the game – grown and sexy R&B music is his signature. His collaborations with Justin Bieber and their strange friendship quite honestly creeps me out.

“Climax” is a song about a hopeless relationship that can’t be saved and the associated heartache.

The track is dripping with falsetto and Usher exercises vocal restraint very well throughout – a far cry from his latest releases.

“Climax” was co-produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, Redd Stylez and Diplo, and it serves as the first single from Usher’s upcoming seventh studio album.

VISUALS

Idolator sums up the music video perfectly:

“The music video adds a whole new dark element to the song. In the clip, Usher sits in a car outside a house where a woman — his former girlfriend, we presume — is getting intimate with another man. Usher pulls a gun out of his glove compartment and agonizes over whether or not to enter the house. In the end, after mulling over the different scenarios in his mind, the singer drives off. Good thinking, Usher — she’s really not going to want you if you’re behind bars.”

To my dismay there is only ONE  scene of exposed abs – an Usher signature. It looks like Usher is growing out his beard and hair in this video too.

Due to the nature of the song and video synopsis you won’t see his dancing talents showcased – however, I feel it’s more than compensated with his acting and facial expressions which show the pain and angst he is experiencing while expressing his emotions.

THE VERDICT

I love the song “Climax” and I hope for more of this sound on his upcoming album. As a huge Usher fan I have been waiting for this return to his R&B best for quite some time. The music video compliments the song perfectly and it is refreshing to see Usher sing about mature content as a solo artist again and reclaim his throne as king of modern day R&B.

LYRICS

“Climax”

Usher

Going Nowhere Fast
We’ve Reached The Climax
We’re Together, Now We’re Undone
Won’t Commit So We Choose To

Run Away, Do We Separate?
Don’t Wanna Give In
So We Both Gave Up
Can’t Take It Back
It’s Too Late, We’ve Reached The Climax, Climax

I’ve Falling Somehow, Feet Off The Ground
Love Is The Blow, That Keeps Raining Down
Where Are You Now? When I Need You Around
I’m On My Knees But It Seems We’re Going Nowhere Fast
We’ve Reached The Climax
We’re Together, Now We’re Undone
Won’t Commit So We Choose To

Run Away, Do We Separate?
Don’t Wanna Give In
So We Both Gave Up
Can’t Take It Back
It’s Too Late, We’ve Reached The Climax, Climax

I Gave My Best It Wasnt Enough
You Get Upset We Argue Too Much
We Made A Mess Of What Used To Be Love So Why Do I Care, I Care At All? X4

Repeat Chorus

You Say Its Better If We Love Each Other Separately

I Just Need You One More Time I Cant Get What We Had Off My Mind,

Where Are You Now? When I Need You Around? Im On My Knees, But It Seems We Are Going Nowhere Fast
