E.L.F Haul and Review

E.L.F or Eyes Lips Face are a budget, animal (PETA) friendly cosmetic brand and I recently went a little crazy buying from their online store.

I have heard positive reviews about E.L.F products in the beauty blogosphere and from YouTube beauty gurus for as long as I can remember.  Prior to Christmas I thought I would browse their online store seeking cosmetic gifts for my girlfriends. I was so impressed with the large range (separated into three lines Studio, Essential and Mineral), the ridonkulously affordable price, plus availability of coupons often with 50% off whole lines I thought to myself,  GET IT GIRL!!

E.L.F Philosophy

E.l.f. believe that innovative technology, quality ingredients and superb delivery systems should not be limited to prestige retailers. Every woman should have the opportunity to participate in innovation, without sacrificing her budget. We hope you agree and invite you to experience E.l.f.’s revolutionary, value-priced cosmetics and the proven results they offer. -E.l.f

FACE PRODUCTS

E.L.F Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder and E.L.F Warm Bronzer

Colour

The E.L.F Contouring Blush and Bronzer is very comparable in colour to NARS Orgasm and Laguna Blush and Bronzer Duo.  The blush is a medium warm pink with shimmer – universally flattering. The bronzer is a medium brown with slight shimmer suited for contouring.

The E.L.F Warm Bronzer has four square shades of pink, peach, brown which are all shimmery and when combined together through a swirl from a brush it creates a beautiful soft warm peach-bronze glow.

Texture

The Contouring Blush and Bronzer is a little chalky compared to the high end NARS Orgasm and Laguna Blush and Bronzer, however if you don’t own the NARS duo you wouldn’t notice the difference.

The Warm Bronzer is soft and shimmery in texture and is very well pigmented requiring less product application to show up on your skin.

Application

I needed to build up the Contouring Blush and Bronzer a little more then I had expected – the colour payoff is not as rich as NARS.  I used an angled contouring blush brush to apply the bronzer under the cheekbone and the blush with the tapered E.L.F blush brush. The combination of the two gives a beautiful healthy, pink and chiselled glow.

Wearability

Both the E.L.F Contouring Blush and Bronzer and E.L.F Warm Bronzer last all day long on the face.

Cost

The E.L.F Contouring Blush and Bronzer and E.L.F  Warm Bronzer are both $3.00 each.

E.L.F Studio Blushes

The packaging is almost identical to the NARS blushes, and it also features a small mirror.

Colour

PeachyKeen is shows on the skin as a soft peach shimmer and is not overly pigmented.

**FANCYE FAVOURITE**

Gotta Glow is said to be a great dupe for NARS Albatross and is a soft, light iridescent gold.

Texture

I find the E.L.F Studio Blushes to be a little chalky compared to higher end blushes (but that is to be expected somewhat).

Application

Despite their chalkiness, they glide onto the skin with a blush brush and it is buildable if you want a more intense hue, although I wasn’t looking for ‘in your face’ colours with these two shades.

I specifically bought Gotta Glow as a highlighting shade to apply on top of my cheekbones and it does the job perfectly.

Wearability

They last all day and I must say that Gotta Glow is probably the best highlighting shade I have found for my NC35 skin tone.

I do not own NARS Albatross, however now that I own Gotta Glow – I don’t feel the need to fork out the almost $30 for it.

I love the way it makes my cheeks look when the light hits  my face (you can even use it on your brow bone as a highlight or down the nose), it gives off a gorgeous JLo glow.

Cost

The E.L.F Studio Blushes are $3.00 each.

E.L.F Eyebrow Kit

Colour

The E.L.F Eyebrow Kit Dark has a dark brown wax and a lighter brown powder to fill in your brows. I think this may be too dark for me in hindsight, I probably should have purchased the medium.

Texture

One side of the kit is wax and the other side is powder but it is not chalky like powder normally is.

Application

You use the supplied brush with the angled end to define the shape of your brows, by dipping it in the dark wax and you use the other brush end to dip into the powder – to fill brows.

Wearability

It lasts all day and doesn’t move, this is the first time I’ve bought a brow product (other than tweezers) and I find it easy to use (although I think it is a little dark).

Cost

The E.L.F Eyebrow Kit Dark costs $3.00 each.

LIP PRODUCTS

E.L.F Conditioning Lip Balm 15+

 **FANCYE FAVOURITE**

Colour

I was so pleased to find that all three balms are ridonkulously pigmented, the colour payoff is fantastic.

Nice and Natural is a medium toned brown/nude shade which in my opinion, is the perfect nude for caramel toned sistas. I am so in love with this colour I do not have any other brown lipsticks or glosses in this hue. Perfect for the corporate environment.

Peaceful Pink is a bubble gum, warm pink which reminds me a lot of Viva Glam Gaga I. I find this colour to be extremely opaque – rare for balms – which in my experience give more of a tint than an in your face colour.

Mellow Melon is slightly more coral than Peaceful Pink, edging on a watermelon hue but not quite red (I don’t do red). It is warm and instantly gives my lips life and a healthy bee-stung appearance when I put it on.

Texture

The E.L.F Lip Conditioning Balms have a delightfully creamy, thick, moisturising consistency. The formula has Vitamin E and other conditioning products to improve the softness and healthy appearance of your lips. The balm is quite matte in the jar and on the lips, however does have a slight shine.

Application

The E.L.F Conditioning Balms are in pots, so it’s application via fingers for these bad boys, however if you are a germophobe you can always use a lip pencil. I find rubbing the balm into my lips with my index finger is the best way to ensure even application and ensure even opaqueness.

Wearability

These are fairly long lasting approximately 3 hours or so without re-application or eating. It is a balm and doesn’t claim to be a pro-longwear product so I am happy with that wear time. However, this product does require that your lips are baby soft and free of dead skin for your base – as it really shows up imperfections. It smells and tastes really nice, like vanilla.

 Cost

The E.L.F Lip Conditioning Balms are $3.00 each.

E.L.F Glossy Glosses

When I got these, unfortunately one of the glosses had leaked and was a glossy mess. The tube caps on my Glossy Glosses don’t close properly as one side of the cap stays higher than the other not closing flat against the tube. I am not sure whether this was just a bad batch

Colour

Ballet Slippers is an opaque soft baby pink gloss with no shimmer. It has been labelled as a dupe for NARS Turkish Delight and rightfully so, I own both and it is very similar in terms of shade.

Tangy Tangerine is a dark orange opaque gloss which looks poppin’ on tanned skin.

Wild Watermelon is a vivid, in ya face, hot pink that is not for the faint hearted. This colour is so opaque that when I first wore it over M.A.C Lickable, I realised I didn’t even need the lipstick underneath because the gloss was so punchy.

Texture

E.L.F Glossy Glosses are creamy yet fairly thin in viscosity and are not sticky *sideyes M.A.C Lip Gloss tubes.* The texture is similar to that of NARS lipglosses.

Application

The gloss wand is a brush which I much prefer over doe foot applicators it is easy to paint the colour on.

Wearability

The E.L.F Glossy Glosses  last a good 2 hours on the lips. They wear well and evenly come off the lips.

Cost

The E.L.F Glossy Glosses cost $3.00 each.

E.L.F Matte Lip Colors

Colour

E.L.F Matte Lip Color Natural is an opaque pinky nude lip colour. When I wear it I feel it gives me that famous Angelina Jolie matte pout look.

E.L.F Matte Lip Color Coral  is exactly as the name suggests – a pretty warm coral. Great for adding warmth to your face.

Texture

The Matte Lip Colors are very creamy, making it easy to apply. The formula consists of Vitamin A, C and E ensuring your lips are hydrated despite the matte look. Because they are so creamy they are susceptible to melting with heat.

Application

The jumbo lip pencils glide on and are easy to apply straight out the tube. It’s a mechanical pencil, so you twist the bottom up to get the lipstick out.

Wearability

Due to the matte formula it is important that as I have stated previously – you condition your lips and remove dry skin before you wear the E.L.F Matte Lip Colors as they accentuate imperfections. The Lip Colors stay on the lips for a long time.

Cost

The E.L.F Matte Lip Colors cost $3.00 each.

EYE PRODUCTS

E.L.F Studio Cream Eyeshadow

I bought this because I  am in love with M.A.C Paint Pots at the moment, and I couldn’t find a smokey eye colour in their permanent line – so when I saw Smoke I got very excited and decided to pick it up. I am sold on the idea of creating a quick smokey eye.

Colour

Smoke is a metallic smokey grey shade that packs a lot of colour. It is a perfect base for a smokey eye or worn alone. If you own Knight Divine by M.A.C, this is the cream shadow version of that.

Texture

It is a cream shadow – the consistency is fairly creamy and comparable to the metallic M.A.C Paint Pots.

Application

You can apply with your fingers, smudging on the product or use a flat shader brush to pack the colour on.

Wearability

The first time I wore Smoke I wore it as a base under Knight Divine and it creased badly. I was disappointed –  next time I will apply an eye primer to prevent this. I expected it to wear the same as my M.A.C Paint Pots.

Cost

E.L.F Studio Cream Eyeshadows cost $3.00 each.

Fancye Scale

E.L.F Essential Eyelid Primer

**FANCYE FAVOURITE**

Colour

E.L.F Eyelid Primer in Sheer is a light champagne colour that blends translucent into the skin.

Texture

It is slightly creamy and is a liquid product which is quite thin in consistency.

Application

The E.L.F Eyelid Primer has a doe foot applicator and you apply it directly to the lids to use a primer for your eyeshadow.  A primer prepares your eyelids for the product you are going to lay on top of it, from concealing imperfections to creating an oil free base to prevent creasing, and improve and brighten the product colours.  The product acts an an adhesive – any product you layer over it – will lock the colour in and ensure your eye products last throughout the day without fading and creasing.

Wearability

This product by nature is meant to last throughout the day and from testing it out, it really does. It keeps my eye makeup looking fresh and vibrant throughout the day.

I own Too Faced Shadow Insurance (I love it and use it everyday) which retails at $15 and I would say that the E.L.F Eyelid Primer would be an almost exact dupe, if you don’t have an eye primer, save yourself the $14 and pick up the E.L.F one.

Cost

The E.L.F Eyelid Primer retails at a ridonkulous $1.00.

 TOOLS

E.L.F Studio Blush Brush

The E.L.F Studio Blush Brush is a taklon, synthetic hair brush which is tapered at the tip ideal for highlighting or contouring. For some reason, the brush I received the hairs at the top didn’t form a point and were a bit wonky. Other than that blemish, it is well constructed and after several washes has not shed. This has replaced my other blush brush.

Cost

The E.L.F Studio Blush Brush costs $3.00.

E.L.F Studio Angled Contour Brush

The E.L.F Angled Contour Brush is a good brush for crease work in the eye area, you could even use it to contour your nose, however I actually use it to apply translucent setting powder under my eyes to set my concealer because I can get right into the lash line.

Cost

The E.L.F Angled Contour Brush costs $3.00.

E.L.F Studio Powder Brush

**FANCYE FAVOURITE**

I love the E.L.F Powder Brush it is now my HG  brush used with my M.A.C Mineralize Skin Finish to set my M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid liquid foundation. It is a flat kabuki style brush and is great because you can buff the powder into the skin creating an airbrushed look.

Cost

The E.L.F Powder Brush costs $3.00.

E.L.F Retractable Lip Brush

I bought the E.L.F Retractable Lip Brush to use with my brighter lipsticks to ensure precise application.

The tip is like a felt pen and you take the lid off the brush and push it onto the end to reveal the brush tip. I think it’s a very good product for all my lippie loving sistas out there.

Cost

The E.L.F Retractable Lip Brush costs $3.00.

E.L.F Kabuki Body Brush

I bought the E.L.F Kabuki Body Brush to use with powder bronzer on my décolletage for the summer time.

The bristles are so soft and it applies powder evenly on the skin. I like how it sits up on it’s base.

Cost

The E.L.F Kabuki Body Brush costs $8.00.

E.L.F Essential Eye Crease Brush

**FANCYE FAVOURITE**

I have never owned a domed crease brush so I decided to purchase the E.L.F Essential Eye Crease Brush to help out with creating that outer v and adding colour to the crease.

I am really pleased with this product, especially for the price. I was going to purchase a M.A.C 219 however I feel that this $1 brush will do the job just as effectively.

Cost

The E.L.F Essential Eye Crease Brush costs $1.00.

E.L.F Large Brush Holder

**FANCYE FAVOURITE**

The E.L.F Large Brush Holder is my favourite brush holder and I love how sleek it looks on my double basin. I use one compartment for my face brushes, one for my eye and lip brushes and the other for my hair clips.  You don’t have to only put brushes in there, you can put any number of beauty products inside.

As you can tell by the photos, it is a matte black rubbery wood look type material which is designed for easy cleaning.

My brushes are so organised in this holder and it is has made it easier and quicker for me to locate brushes.  I LOVE IT!

NAILS

E.L.F Nail Polish

E.L.F  Mint Cream Nail Polish is a gorgeous Spring/Summer loving mint/aqua shade. I think it’s perfect for our current Summer season in Australia.

The brushes are not as wide as the ProWide’s I’m accustomed to by O.P.I.

A unique shade at a budget price.
