M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam Lipstick

M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam lipstick – have you caught the hype?

M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam is a bright yellow based pink lipstick that is highly pigmented and is not for the faint hearted. I do not own a pink like this in my collection – some people mistake it for a coral but it isn’t. This lipstick colour is definitely statement and will force you to tone down every other aspect of your makeup (even your outfit!).

M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam is a Satin lipstick meaning it is highly pigmented – however there is a trade off, it is quite drying on the lips. I assume that is why Ricky Viva Glam was released simultaneously– a clear lip conditioner – it compliments Nicky perfectly.

Apply M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam with a light hand and with great care – and for me (and most other sistas), never without a lip liner.

Firstly, ensure your lips are free form dry skin and are primed with a lip balm because the Satin formula is not forgiving on chapped lips – imperfections will show up ten fold.

I have asked a M.A.C artist about which lip liners to apply with M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam and was told that the following colours are best to apply underneath for myself and other women of colour: Magenta (I own this and it is depicted underneath Nicki below), In Anticipation, Hip ‘n’ Happy, Just Wonderful and Beet.

The reason why lip liner is so necessary is because the colour straight out the tube is very bright and makes most people look clown like. I actually want to wear this lipstick without it overpowering every aspect of my look. Remember, I am just getting into bright and bold lipsticks so I am taking baby steps and liner is a good way of making lipsticks I would traditionally run screaming away from – wearable for my conservative and safe self. Also, bright lipglosses are a good way of getting into brighter and bolder lipstick hues I’ve found E.L.F’s Watermelon Glossy Gloss helped me immensely.

I line the outline of my lips and fill it from pressing my lips together. I then pat on M.A.C Nicki Minaj Viva Glam rather than the traditional swiping motion – due to the high pigmentation of the lipstick. Hey, this is not exactly Freckletone or Hue people!

Once I reach the desired saturation, I then add a little more Magenta if needed to add some more dimension and tone it down.

Being the gloss queen that I am it then add some gloss in the centre of my lips to give that extra pop, my gloss of choice is Ample Pink Plush Glass or Big Baby Plush Glass.

I actually did wear it in my conservative workplace (Miss C I TOLD YOU I would make it work!).

Due to the pigmentation the lipstick lasts a long time and wears well after I’ve eaten (the liner helps). I find you really need to work hard to remove the pink off your lips at the end of the day I use my Clarisonic and sometimes even waterproof makeup remove to get rid of all traces.
