Summer Golden Bronze Eye Look: BEAUTY TUTORIAL

MAC Amber Lights

Want to recreate this golden bronze eye look? Get up to speed with this hot Summer 2012 trend.

Summer 2012 is all about the golden and bronzed lids.

They’ve been seen on the runways at the Marchesa and Dolce & Gabanna show emulating an angelic look and at Mara Hoffman it’s all about  heavy metallic smoked eyes.

Bronzed skin is also hot right now, with Michael Kors and Derek Lam emphasising the bronzed glowy cheek.

For my Northern hemisphere readers – get on trend by rocking this look!

My sistas in the South – get a season ahead and wear this look to pull yourself out of this freezing winter funk.  It’s a trans-seasonal look.

Let’s get into it!

Feel free to substitute these products with similar products you have in your kit.

Summer Golden Bronze Eye look face

I used:

1. Apply your foundation (M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 in NC35) with your tool of choice. I used a wide foundation brush for this look.

2.  I love the Kim Kardashian bright under eye look so I use the method her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic uses. I applied the lighter concealer Maybelline Fit Me in 10 Light (should be 2 to 3 shades lighter than your foundation) under the eye outlining an upside down triangle shape, then I blended the product with my finger, Kim uses a Beauty Blender – but you can use whatever tool you want.

This creates a bright awake look, you blend right up into the bottom lash line and out towards the hairline.  If you don’t want the Kim K bright eye look – just use your normal concealer with the same technique.

3. Use your foundation matched concealer (M.A.C Studio Finish Concealer in NC35) to conceal blemishes, enlarged pores and to outline and define the shape of your brow – I use my fingers.

4. Set your foundation and concealer with a powder using a powder brush, kabuki or powder puff. I used the Ben Nye Banana  Powder which Mario also swears by using on Kim Kardashian  by pressing it into the skin. It really locks the liquid product in all day long, stops oil coming through altogether and gives you this airbrushed appearance to your skin. It is a theatre powder it’s made for the stage. I love it! It does mattify so if you don’t like the matte all over look prefer a dewy, more skin like look – just apply powder to your t-zone.

Summer Golden Bronze Eye look cheeks

I used:
  • M.A.C Gingerly powder blush;
  • M.A.C Blunt powder blush (as a contour);
  • E.L.F Gotta Glow blush

1. (Optional step) Contour your cheeks to give yourself that chiselled and thinner face look with whatever bronzer you may have, I used M.A.C Blunt powder blush. Not sure how to contour, apply blush or highlight? Find out HERE.

2. Apply a warm bronze, golden blush to the cheeks – I used M.A.C Gingerly powder blush.

3. (Optional step) Apply a highlight colour preferably in the gold tonal family to the top of your cheekbones- I used E.L.F Gotta Glow which is a brilliant dupe for NARS Albatross. This is going to give you that beautiful sheen when the light hits your face and add dimension and depth.

M.A.C Amber Lights
I used:
  • M.A.C Amber Lights Powder Eyeshadow;
  • M.A.C Indianwood Paint Pot;
  • M.A.C Texture Powder Eyeshadow;
  • Urban Decay Foxy Powder Eyeshadow (Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette);
  • Wet and Wild H20 Proof Liquid Liner;
  • Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara;
  • Katy Perry Cool Kitty False Eyelashes;

The metallic peepers are the real focus of this summer golden bronze eye look.

1. Apply a primer to the eyelids to ensure the product stays put and the eyeshadows appear true to colour. I applied M.A.C Indianwood Paint Pot with a flat brush because I really wanted to emphasise the bronze gold colour.

2. Pat on your metallic gold bronze eyeshadow with a flat shader brush all over your eyelid up to the crease. I used M.A.C Amber Lights Powder Eyeshadow – ugh I love this colour! Take a smaller pointed brush and line your bottom lash line half way in with the same shadow – and apply it to your tear duct area to give you a golden pop of colour.

3. Take a fluffy eye brush (I used my M.A.C 217 or Coastal Scents E25) and tap it into the dark bronze/brown crease shadow colour and apply it lightly to the crease area and creating an outer v shape. I used my favourite crease colour M.A.C Texture Powder Eyeshadow– thanks to the Harlem M.A.C MUA for suggesting this!

This will give your eye depth. Take your time with this step – build the intensity slowly. It’s easier to add colour than it is to take it away.

4. Blend your crease colour and your lid colour with a fluffy shadow brush in a windscreen wiper motion to soften the harsh edges – you want it to become a gradient.

5. (Optional step) Pat on your highlight eyeshadow under the brow – this should be a yellow toned vanilla shade. If you want you can t add concealer in it’s place as your highlight and skip this. I used Foxy from the Urban Decay Naked Palette 2. I would normally use M.A.C’s Brule but I’ve hit pan. Blend into the crease and lid shade.

6. Curl your lashes, then take your eyeliner of choice – I used the Wet and Wild H20 Proof Liquid Liner but I regularly interchange with M.A.C Blacktrack Fluid Line and line your top lash line making the line thicker towards the outer corner.

7. (Optional step) Apply your false lashes – in this look I used the Katy Perry Cool Kitty eyelashes.

8. Swipe on a volumizing and lengthening mascara to your top and bottom lashes making your lashes super black, thick and long emphasising your eyes. Again, being  a Kim Kardashian lover I just had to use the mascara she loves and that is the Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara. Lashes like POW!

9. Gently curl your lashes again just to lock in the curl once the mascara has dried.

MAC Freckletone collage

I used:

  • M.A.C Freckletone lipstick
As the eyes are the focus of this look – choose a lipstick or gloss that is a warm neutral. Swipe it on and pucker up – I used my HG lipstick M.A.C Freckletone.

Your summer golden bronze eye look is complete!

Get out there and wow them with your glowy, metallic, sexy and super on trend look.
